Who would’ve thought that folks would start printing Metal fanzines again in the digital age? Here it is 2012 and I have in my hands Issue #2 from a ‘zine called Chips and Beer.
Chips & Beer is a new metal mag meant to give coverage to real metal that isn’t being covered in-depth elsewhere. According to the folks responsible for this: “It revolves around what makes our lives tolerable, Metal, Horror, Chips, Beer, Comics and Metal (old, new, no bullshit, no pose; but mostly, Metal).”
This second issue rips it up with features on KING DIAMOND, DECEASED, MIDNIGHT, THRONES, MORBUS CHRON, OBSEQUIAE, TWISTED TOWER DIRE, OLA LARSSON, and MENTORS.
I especially liked the in-depth KING DIAMOND feature, and it was good to see the MENTORS are actually still alive (well, most of them). The graphics and illustrations are top-notch and pretty funny. The writing has its own smart-ass [in a good way] slant and reeks of stale CHIPS and [lots of] cheap BEER perhaps.
Get your issue now for $7; that’s only one less six-pack of cheap beer and a bag of chips!
Chips and Beer is printed on newsprint with glossy full-color covers by a couple of pasty white dudes.
Published by the creators, writers and designers/illustrators of TheLeftHandPath in association with 20 Buck Spin.
